About Ibrahim

Jambo, I am Ibrahim, a 38-year-old father of three beautiful children, living in bustling Dar es Salaam.
For nine years I lived and worked in the Netherlands, but now I have been back in Tanzania for nine years.
I am in love with this country, but I also understand very well what is so special about the Netherlands.
I still speak good Dutch and Swahili and enjoy the connection with the Netherlands, a country that is still dear to me.
My passion is to help others discover the beauty and culture of Dar es Salaam, with the same warmth and knowledge that I had the privilege of experiencing myself.

My journey from Tanzania to the Netherlands and back

It all started with a vacation to the Netherlands, where I stuck around and built a new life.
In Holland I worked in construction and learned to appreciate life in Europe.
I miss the cold winters, KAAS, the Dutch cosiness (that’s how I experienced it) and yes, even the stamppot and kroketten!
But Tanzania always kept attracting me, with its warmth, people and culture.
After nine years I returned, not because it was easy, but because it felt like coming home.
Now I want to help others find that same sense of home in Tanzania, whether a tourist looking for adventure or an expat looking to build a new life.

Born of love and family

Naar-dar-es-salaam.nl was born out of a family bond that is stronger than any border.
My brother Cassim, who grew up in the Netherlands and with whom I was reunited only 25 years ago through the program Spoorloos, plays a big role in this journey.
Cassim has always supported me, and together we are building a future where we help people really get to know Dar es Salaam.
He taught me the importance of what I do here: sharing the culture, guiding people through the city, and providing a warm, safe experience.
He said, “Ibrahim, you should do what you do for me, but for everyone who wants to explore Dar es Salaam.”
And so Naar-dar-es-salaam.nl was born.

A world of difference: My life between the Netherlands and Tanzania

Nine years in the Netherlands have shaped me.
I understand the differences between our cultures and what it means to find your way in a foreign country.
I sometimes miss the cold winters and the Dutch cosiness, but here in Tanzania I have found my heart again.
I would love to help you experience that same warmth and wonderment, whether you come here to work, move or just go on an adventure.

With family by your side: Cassim and Spoorloos

My brother Cassim and I met through Spoorloos, and since then we have built a bond that has not let go of us.
He supports me from the Netherlands and helps me make naar-dar-es-salaam.nl a success.
Our shared passion to put Dar es Salaam on the map is what drives us.
Together we make sure you feel as much at home here as we do.

To-dar-es-salaam.com: A project from the heart

This is a project that comes straight from my heart.
It is not only about showing the beauty of Dar es Salaam, but also about generating income that is vital for me and my family.
In Africa, life is about community.
We take care of each other, not just our family, but brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts and everyone around us who is struggling.
This project allows me to not only take care of my own family, but also support others.
It is how we live here: sharing together, caring together, and standing strong together.
By offering you the best experience in Dar es Salaam, I can do my part to support the people I love and the community that has shaped me.

A future built on experience

Life in Dar es Salaam is an adventure, full of vibrancy and surprises, but it also has its challenges.
After nine years in the Netherlands, where structure and security are taken for granted, returning to Tanzania was a leap of faith.
It is beautiful here, but life is about finding your way every day, showing resilience, and making ends meet in an environment that sometimes asks everything of you.
Salaries are low here, and life can be expensive, especially if you are used to the opportunities in the Netherlands.
Still, there is nothing I would rather do than help others experience this special place through my eyes.

In the Netherlands, I learned what it means to live in a structured world.
Here in Dar es Salaam, I enjoy the unpredictability, the warmth of family and community, and the small moments of joy that color daily life.
It is not always easy, but it is our life, and we make the best of it.
There is always food on the table, the sun is shining, and we have each other.
And that is what I also want to show you: the beauty of Dar es Salaam, with all its ups and downs.

Much of this journey I share with my brother Cassim, who runs an online marketing agency in the Netherlands in Rotterdam.
Cassim and I only met later in life through the program Spoorloos, and we have been inseparable ever since.
His support is indispensable; he helps me put naar-dar-es-salaam.nl on the map and showcase our services to anyone who wants to discover Dar es Salaam.
Every time he is here, we see the city anew through each other’s eyes, strengthening the bond we have built together.
He is my rock, and his love for Tanzania and his belief in my mission are a great source of strength for me.

Together we decided to make to-dar-es-salaam.com not just a guide, but a source of confidence for everyone who comes here.
Whether you are a tourist, an expat, or someone considering moving to Tanzania, I want to be there for you.
I know what it’s like to have to find your place in a new environment, and I understand the obstacles involved.
With my knowledge of local life, my experience in the Netherlands, and the support of my brother, I want to help you discover Dar es Salaam and feel at home here.

NaarDarEsSalaam.nl was born out of my desire to build that bridge between the two worlds I know so well.
And with the help of Cassim, who strengthens our project with his expertise and enthusiasm, I am convinced that we can offer you the best experience.
So let’s go out together, explore the city, and make the most of your time in Dar es Salaam.
Because with the right guidance and a little confidence, even the unfamiliar quickly becomes familiar.
