Carefree relocation to Tanzania
Receive personal support with your move to Tanzania
From housing and insurance to school choice and administrative matters, with my local knowledge and experience I will ensure a smooth transition
Moving to a new country is an adventure full of new experiences, but it can also be quite a culture shock.
I know that like no other.
I myself once moved to the Netherlands from Tanzania, and it was a world of difference.
Everything was different: from the way people interacted with each other to arranging the smallest daily things.
In the nine years I spent in the Netherlands, I learned a lot about Dutch culture and customs.
When I returned to Tanzania a few years ago, it again felt like a culture shock.
Although I spoke the official language and was familiar with local life, it took some getting used to again.
Now that I have been back for several years and have developed as a true Dutchman in the Netherlands, I continue to be amazed at how different things are here in Tanzania.
Especially since I still have family in the Netherlands who visit regularly, I keep seeing the differences between the two worlds.
Tanzania, with its millions of inhabitants and diverse population, much of which is Muslim, offers unique challenges and opportunities.
Therefore, it is enormously helpful to make use of my knowledge, experience, cultural insights, and, of course, my language skills.
Whether it’s tax issues, insurance mediation upon departure, or day-to-day support, I am happy to help others, like you, make the transition to Tanzania as smooth and worry-free as possible.
Whether you are moving with your family, coming here to work as a diplomat, or embarking on a new adventure as an expat, I am here to support you in this big step.
Who is this support for?
Moving to a new country can be exciting but also overwhelming.
Whether you are an experienced expat, diplomat, businessman, missionary, health care worker, or volunteer, there are always challenges that come your way.
Consider:
- Diplomats: Must adhere to strict protocols and need reliable support for things like housing and legal matters.
- Expats and Business People: Want to pursue their careers in a new environment and need to navigate local regulations and local life, from finding a suitable home to understanding car age requirements for private transportation.
- NGO Workers and Mission Travelers: often face logistical and cultural challenges, such as understanding local people and adjusting to daily life in Tanzania.
- Teachers, Health Workers, Volunteers and Students: Need to adapt to new systems and local culture.
Whether it’s finding a high school for their children or personal development in a new country, I’ll help you get started. - Family members of Expats and Diplomats: Have concerns about housing, education for their children, and daily support, and need someone to guide them through the unknown.
- Retirees and Long-Stay Tourists: Want to spend their last chapter or extended trip in Tanzania, which often comes with challenges such as access to health care, public transportation, and finding reliable alternatives to car cabs.
These groups often have to navigate a complex landscape of legal issues, insurance, and administrative challenges, all of which differ from European standards.
These are issues where I can help you through my direct contact with local agencies and my extensive knowledge of Tanzania.

What challenges can you expect?
When emigrating to Dar es Salaam or elsewhere in Tanzania, such as the popular neighborhoods of Kariakoo Market or Oyster Bay, there can be many questions and uncertainties that may come your way.
Here are some of the biggest challenges you may face:
- Language barrier:
Swahili is the official language, and although English is often spoken, it is not always sufficient to properly understand the nuances of contracts and daily interactions.
Learning a new language such as Swahili is possible but will take time. - Arranging Housing:
Finding safe and suitable housing can be tricky, especially if you don’t know the local markets.
Consider understanding local rules for such things as car age requirements if you want to rent a car with a driver. - Insurance and Finance:
Understanding and arranging local insurance and bank accounts, and how this fits within international standards, such as for international workers and foreign investors. - Education and Child Care:
Finding a good international school or local options that match your home country’s curriculum, for example, a suitable high school. - Healthcare:
Navigating the healthcare system and accessing reliable medical care, which is essential for a safe and healthy new life in Tanzania. - Administrative Affairs:
Arranging residence permits, work permits, and registration with local authorities, such as obtaining a valid driver’s license and other necessary documents. - Safety and Culture:
Knowing which neighborhoods are safe and how to protect yourself from petty crime and misunderstandings of the local culture.
Much of the population is Muslim, which affects manners and daily customs.
