We start in the old part of town, where ruins from the German colonial period still stand. You will visit the Old Boma, the city’s oldest administrative building; the Kaole Ruins, where myths and legends come to life; and the Catholic Church, one of the first Christian churches in East Africa. The Bagamoyo Museum tells the impressive history of slavery and trade, while the guide takes you through stories deeply rooted in the city. Want to discover the rich history of Bagamoyo? On this day tour, we will take you to one of Tanzania’s most fascinating historical cities. What to expect.

🚗 Morning departure to Bagamoyo
We will depart from Dar Es Salaam early in the morning so that we can make the most of the day and drive smoothly through traffic. The drive to Bagamoyo takes about 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on how early we leave. Along the way, we will stop at an authentic local spot to enjoy a delicious cup of Tanzanian coffee. Here you not only taste the flavor of Tanzania, but also experience the local culture in a relaxed setting. The drive itself is already an experience, while along the way I tell you more about life in Tanzania and the history of Dar Es Salaam.

🏛 Explore Old Bagamoyo
Upon arrival, we begin in the historic heart of Bagamoyo, where you can admire the remnants of its colonial past. We visit the Old Boma, one of the oldest buildings from the German colonial period, and the Kaole Ruins, where myths and legends come to life. Here you will be told about the people who once lived here and their mysterious stories.

Besides the historical buildings, Bagamoyo also has beautiful nature. During our exploration, you will pass by the impressive baobab trees, known for their massive trunks and longevity. Amarula trees also grow here, whose fruits are loved by both humans and animals. In the right season, you can taste these fruits for yourself and discover why they play such a special role in the local culture.

🐍 Visit to the Snake Farm
After exploring the old town, we’ll head to the Snake Farm, where you’ll come face to face with some of Tanzania’s most fascinating reptiles. Here you will learn about different snake species, their habitats and the role they play in the ecosystem. For animal and nature lovers, this is an exciting and educational experience.

🍽 Have lunch in Bagamoyo
After a morning full of discoveries, it’s time to enjoy a delicious lunch. We will take you to a local restaurant where you can taste the flavors of Tanzania. Here you will have a chance to relax and reflect on the morning’s experiences.

Catholic Church & Bagamoyo Museum
In the afternoon we will visit the old Catholic Church, one of the first churches in East Africa, where missionaries settled and played an important role in the history of the region. Then we will go to the Bagamoyo Museum, where we will delve deeper into the history of the city. Here you will learn about the slave trade, the influence of the Germans and the trade routes along the coast. An impressive and educational end to the day before we drive back to Dar Es Salaam.

Departure and return

🚗 You will be picked up at your hotel or other agreed location in Dar Es Salaam.
📍 Pick-up within 30 km of the center is included, for further distances there is a surcharge due to fuel costs.
